Ryan Hansen is the founder and president of the Tara Hansen Foundation. He founded the Foundation in the spring of 2012, just one year after he lost his wife, six days after giving birth to their first child.
Since that time, he has been speaking and fundraising as an advocate for improved maternal health in the United States. The foundation has raised more than $100,000 in the name of patient safety for women and their families. The Foundation hosted a conference in 2013 for healthcare professionals and the community in collaboration with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. This conference was attended by more than 300 people and led to the creation of a white paper on maternal health and safety which was published in early 2015.
Ryan has been an invited speaker at the ACOG Annual Meeting in 2015 in San Francisco, CA; ACOG District ll meeting for the Safe Mother Initiative, New York, NY; Every Mother Counts MPower luncheon, New York, NY; New Jersey Hospital Association, Princeton, NJ; and local hospitals. This fall he will address the 2016 SC Birth Outcomes Initiative Symposium in Columbia, SC. Ryan is also working with Merck for Mothers to help raise awareness of pregnancy complications because no woman should die giving life.
Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Rutgers University and is the social media manager for PR Newswire in Jersey City, New Jersey.
