During the 72nd United Nations General Assembly, TIME and Merck for Mothers held a conversation about the devastating refugee crisis and the impact it's having on pregnant women.

Women represent about half of all refugees. For refugees who are pregnant - more than 1,000 gave birth in Greek refugee camps in 2016 alone - the harrowing plight of leaving their home countries and seeking shelter in a foreign land is made even more difficult by their pregnancies. In fact, according to the UN, 60 percent of all maternal deaths occur in humanitarian and fragile contexts.

During the event, panelists and attendees shed light on the journeys – and many challenges –these women face, and what can and should be done to improve maternal health outcomes for refugee, migrant and other vulnerable populations.

We can end preventable maternal deaths in our lifetime, but we can’t do it alone. Together, we are inventing programs, partnerships, and solutions to move the needle on this global challenge. Join us.
